What is NFC?...

Near field communication, or NFC, allows for simplified transactions, data exchange, and wireless connections between two devices in proximity to each other, usually by no more than a few centimeters.^[1] It is expected to become a widely used system for making payments by smartphone in the United States. Many smartphones currently on the market already contain embedded NFC chips that can send encrypted data a short distance ("near field") to a reader located, for instance, next to a retail cash register. Shoppers who have their credit card information stored in their NFC smartphones can pay for purchases by waving their smartphones near or tapping them on the reader, rather than using the actual credit card. Co-invented by NXP Semiconductors and Sony in 2002, NFC technology is being added to a growing number of mobile handsets to enable mobile payments, as well as many other applications.^[2]
The Near Field Communication Forum (NFC Forum) formed in 2004 promotes sharing, pairing, and transactions between NFC devices^[3] and develops and certifies device compliance with NFC standards.^[4] A smartphone or tablet with an NFC chip could make a credit card payment or serve as keycard or ID card. NFC devices can read NFC tags on a museum or retail display to get more information or an audio or video presentation. NFC can share a contact, photo, song, application, or video or pair Bluetooth devices.

NFC tags and QR codes are being added as a standard feature on UK real estate agency chain Strutt & Parker's property 'for sale' signs.

Upmarket national real estate chain Strutt & Parker has become the first to roll out NFC and QR code-enabled 'for sale' signs in the UK.
"We are currently trialling the system with eight offices across the UK before hopefully rolling out to all our other offices in the New Year," Strutt & Parker's Charlotte Hessey has told NFC World. The agencies will offer the feature for all properties where it can be scanned, she added, whether on foot or by car — wherever it is safe for buyers to park up.
The "smartboards" have been provided to Strutt & Parker by property signage specialist Kremer Signs and allow buyers to scan a QR code or NFC tag to obtain immediate information about the property in question. The introduction is being timed to coincide with the launch of the company's new mobile website and will allow smartphone users to access full property details including floorplans and photos as well as to request further information or arrange a viewing.

The smartboards also provide a huge advantage to real estate agents, Strutt & Parker explains, as it will be possible to access statistics on who is using the boards. When an agent logs into their account, they can see details of each customer that has registered to get property information while interacting with a smartboard, including their name and mobile phone number, as well as the date and time of each interaction.
"This is remarkable and groundbreaking technology," says Kiersty Long, head of digital marketing at Strutt & Parker. "We feel confident that it will open new doors in marketing our properties."

Korean manufacturer Hicel has introduced a digital business card that combines the features of traditional cards with NFC functionality.
The business cards include both an NFC chip and a QR code and provide sufficient memory capacity to store far more information than can be printed on a traditional business card. Ideas include the addition of an individual's CV and work history, links to websites, Twitter handles, LinkedIn and Facebook profiles and more.

We are investigating how we can use these cards with our TAGs.... we want to be able to print the ihopto TAG image onto the card and then have the best of all worlds.. A business card, a QR code, NFC Chip, with our TAG to show multiple web pages.

Who cares what your domain is ?.

Ok you found that the website domain you wanted has already been taken...you have searched .com, co.uk, .net .xxx, .co, .org etc etc etc and someone has already taken them, and whats more frustrating is when someone has taken them but not linked them to anything!.. So you know they are out there, wasted, but potentially waiting to take your idea!.

But who cares what the URL is! if you advertise your ihop.to TAG....why advertise your URL.. no one can remember them these days, and they are all being shortened for social networks so whats the point of spending 1000's to get the right domain.

How to make your Adwords more effective

Most online advertisers use their own web URL on their offline advertising. Often this is to the homepage, with links on the homepage to the pages linked to what has been advertised. A large number of advertisers don't redirect their readers to the right web page making the point of placing the URL on a advertisement redundant.
Unless a reader, or watcher or an advert is sitting on a computer while reading it is unlikely they will remember the URL that is advertised. Instead they are far more likely to remember a couple of keywords from your advert and use them in a search engine later on.

If you have integrated your campaigns with an SEO campaign and have bought Adwords or a featured listing you are reliant on your readers/watching picking the right keywords to search for your web pages, or you have had to buy a larger number of adwords to ensure that they are searched on.

This is an article that follows up a previous post I had added on online identities.
As you have seen from previous posts here at ihopto we feel that a TAG can give you an online identity.
These articles raise an increasing isssue on who you are on the internet. I like the theme from this article that "facebook treats our identity as a mirror - they assume we want to reveal everything, while we really are a diamond with multi facets" . Although I would argue that now with the "categorisation" of friends that came with the new upgrade of facebook means that your post and updates can effectively be segmented. I guess they have sort of recognised this issue.
Our idea is for users to use different TAGs for different links. One TAG for the sites you want to share with friends, another TAG for those sites you want to show with family, and another for professional sites etc..
