The one icon you must have on your advertising....

ihopto has come up with an innovative solution that solves this with one simple icon/image that is displayed on an advertisement. This image includes a easily recognisable icon – a blue space hopper, and a word or phrase that when typed into a http://www.ihop.to/ search site will direct users directly to web pages linked to that registered word. This could be to anything – possibly web pages featuring the advertising campaign, to social media profiles, or perhaps to the company blog.

Advertisers are increasingly coming up with ways to engage their customers from their “offline” advertising and drive them “online” – whether this be directing them to “Like” their Facebook page, direct them to the company homepage, adding a QR code to direct them to a web page, or displaying social media icons letting them know they have a Twitter or Facebook account.

ihopto questioned how effective these methods were. From their research on a set of Sunday newspapers, they discovered that 80% of URLs displayed do not drive a user, without the user having to click 2 or 3 more times, to a web page that is directly related to what is being advertised. Also in the majority of cases the social media profile name is not specified so the user still has to do a search to get to the correct profile. QR codes are static, take time to use and only useful where the audience can use a smartphone.

Having a word or words in the icon/image is the secret to making this work. Firstly it is easy to see which words are already claimed and registered by searching on ihopto’s website. Secondly words are easy for an audience to remember, if they see or hear the advert and don’t have a computer in front of them at the time. Even if the word is not entered directly into a http://www.ihop.to/ search site, it can be used to search in Google to ensure the words used match your adwords, making SEO spend more effective.

Terry Benge – CEO of ihopto says. The great benefit is the fact that the URLs linked to a registered word can be dynamically changed meaning advertising copy does not need to be changed if new web pages are created or new social media profiles have been created.
After all advertisers panacea has always been to have a memorable brand, combined with an easily remembered slogan, so it should be essential to have memorable way to drive the user to the right place online.

ihopto incorporated into a NFC Business Card...

Hicel launches NFC business cards

By Email Sarah Clarknfcworld.com28 June 2011, 13:23
Korean manufacturer Hicel has introduced a digital business card that combines the features of traditional cards with NFC functionality.
The business cards include both an NFC chip and a QR code and provide sufficient memory capacity to store far more information than can be printed on a traditional business card. Ideas include the addition of an individual's CV and work history, links to websites, Twitter handles, LinkedIn and Facebook profiles and more.

We are investigating how we can use these cards with our TAGs.... we want to be able to print the ihopto TAG image onto the card and then have the best of all worlds.. A business card, a QR code, NFC Chip, with our TAG to show multiple web pages.

How to make your Adwords more effective

Most online advertisers use their own web URL on their offline advertising. Often this is to the homepage, with links on the homepage to the pages linked to what has been advertised. A large number of advertisers don't redirect their readers to the right web page making the point of placing the URL on a advertisement redundant.
Unless a reader, or watcher or an advert is sitting on a computer while reading it is unlikely they will remember the URL that is advertised. Instead they are far more likely to remember a couple of keywords from your advert and use them in a search engine later on.

If you have integrated your campaigns with an SEO campaign and have bought Adwords or a featured listing you are reliant on your readers/watching picking the right keywords to search for your web pages, or you have had to buy a larger number of adwords to ensure that they are searched on.

Having an ihopto TAG can significantly increase the hit rate on your selected adwords. Imagine using your Adwords as your TAG. Show them on your advert and ask your audience to use them in their search - ihop words are unique to each country so your competitors will not be advertised their Adwords.

Attached is an article on costs - these will reduce with an ihop.to TAG

Make a great noise and win chicken for a year....

This is a unique approach for a fastfood/restaurant company to drive their customers to their online world. They have created their own vanity URL with a website to allow people to upload a noise to Utube. They can TAG their noise with "UltimateNandosNoise" which allows users to find the videos via the Utube site.
The page also allows users to Like their facebook page.

mirror vs diamond..

http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/60DzmL/venturebeat.com/2011/10/17/chris-poole-identity/

This is an article that follows up a previous post I had added on online identities.
As you have seen from previous posts here at ihopto we feel that a TAG can give you an online identity.
These articles raise an increasing isssue on who you are on the internet. I like the theme from this article that "facebook treats our identity as a mirror - they assume we want to reveal everything, while we really are a diamond with multi facets" . Although I would argue that now with the "categorisation" of friends that came with the new upgrade of facebook means that your post and updates can effectively be segmented. I guess they have sort of recognised this issue.
Our idea is for users to use different TAGs for different links. One TAG for the sites you want to share with friends, another TAG for those sites you want to show with family, and another for professional sites etc..

QR Code containing data?.

Interesting article on the use of a QR Code for a stamp.
This does not jsut link to a simple web page but to a page that contains info on how the package was delivered etc. How could you use a QR to present data not just a website....

Words not URLs

Here at ihopto we look at how people are using their TAGs. We have noticed alot of our new sign ups are using a URL for their TAG rather than a word. To make a TAG more effective  it should be a word, or words, or a phrase that is easier for people to remember. You then link your website/URL to the word.

It's easy to change - just log back into your account and you can amend the TAG in the TAG owners section. Any questions email us on support@ihop.to and we will be happy to help.
